Peace and Economic Cooperation in the MED-EASTERN region discussed at the Crans Montana Forum in Geneva

In the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary celebration of the Crans Montana Forum, on 26-28 June 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland, was launched a new Initiative of Peace and Economic Cooperation dedicated to Eastern Mediterranean region.

The launching of this initiative started on 27 June 2019 with the session dedicated to the 30th Anniversary, co-chaired by Mr. Daniel Warner, Chairperson of Advisory Board, Crans Montana Forum, Mr. Gilles Pargneaux, MEP, European Parliament, Mr. David Iakobachvili, Vice-President, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a Special Programme was devoted to Global Security in the Med-Eastern region and Global Security and Energy Security.
 
This 2019 Crans Montana Forum's Initiative aimed to work on the improvement of the Med-Eastern Cooperation and to gather Government Officials of these countries together with Business decision makers and international stakeholders.As it was stressed by H.E. Mr. Pierre-Emanuel Quirin, the President of Crans Montana Forum, and Ambassador H.E. Jean-Paul Carteron, Honorary Chairman & Founder of Crans Montana Forum, Black Seas & Adriatic Sea Regions are among the key players of the Mediterranean. From Italy to Russia and Azerbaijan, numerous countries enjoying rich and various potentials are unavoidable actors of peace, stability, regional integration and economic development.
 
Followed by the first day, on 28 June 2019 started a session with a theme of “Connecting Europe and Africa to the Maritime Silk Road: Opportunities and Impact on the Mediterranean equilibrium”, where the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA participated as a Keynote Speaker.
Within the keynote speech, Mr. Mircea Ciopraga stressed that PS IGC TRACECA will be able to make a direct contribution to the development of interregional relations between the TRACECA countries and African partners, specifically, within the framework of developing the Concept “Motorways of the Sea” between the ports of the North and South Mediterranean.
The positive experience of TRACECA colleagues has been noted that actively working in this dimension and particularly in the organization of a regular Ro-Ro communication with the ports of North Africa, as well as with a number of Near-Eastern countries. “We are prepared for cooperation with the ports of the African continent interested in the improvement of trade-economic relations in the Eurasian region, and I think that the Crans-Montana Forum may serve an effective platform for the development of cooperation in the Asia-African connection.” – stated Secretary General.
Mr. Ciopraga also mentioned that broadening of cooperation in the field of transport and trade between the TRACECA countries and the African continent presents common interest in the context of increasing economic and social development potential, growth of trade and tourism, consolidation of peace and stability, as well as growth of prosperity in the region.
