Working visit of the representatives of National Secretariat of Turkey to TRACECA Headquarter

On 2 April 2015, at the Headquarters of the TRACECA Permanent Secretariat, Mr. Mircea Ciopraga, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA met with Mr. Erdem Direkler, National Secretary of TRACECA in Turkey and Dr. Secil Ozyanik, Expert of TRACECA National Secretariat in Turkey.

The Parties discussed the further development of TRACECA, issues of cooperation and plan of activities during the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey in the IGC TRACECA.

Participants of the meeting exchanged opinions and underlined the necessity to take practical steps on the revival of the Great Silk Road with the view of consolidating TRACECA status as independent international organization in the region, as well as implementing high transport technologies, organizing and improving multimodal transport.

The key role of TRACECA as international organization were emphasized on the meeting in view of the purposes of ensuring sustainable development and international cooperation, problems and possibilities of developing road, railway and ferry transport, as well as transport dialogue for modernization of national projects, programmes, outlook and image for the future.

Mr. Direkler assured Mr. Ciopraga in the support of the Republic of Turkey on the issue of transformation of TRACECA into international organization.

During the meeting discussion touched the issues of TRACECA further enlargement. Particularly, in view of the social-economic revival of Afghanistan, its involvement in large-scale regional and international infrastructure projects, huge possibilities will be open for optimization of transport flows in Eurasian region, a new strategic perspective to be added to interregional and intercontinental communications, including TRACECA.

On the outcomes of the meeting, parties agreed to continue detailed discussion during next official visit of the Secretary General to Ankara, Turkey.
